Vacation time can expire!
If vacation could not be fully taken by the end of the year due to illness or operational reasons, the remaining vacation will be carried over to the new year, but must then be taken by March 31st.
Any remaining vacation days will be forfeited without compensation, unless the vacation could not be taken due to illness or the employer refused the vacation that was claimed in a timely manner.
Vacation must always be requested. Taking vacation without authorization can lead to immediate dismissal. If vacation is denied, the only recourse is legal action, usually by way of an injunction.
